Coconut Palm

The coconut palm, Cocos nucifera, is a member of the family Arecaceae (palm family). It is the only accepted species in the genus Cocos. The term coconut can refer to the entire coconut palm, the seed, or the fruit, which is not a botanical nut. The spelling cocoanut is an old-fashioned form of the word. The term is derived from 16th century Portuguese and Spanish cocos, meaning "grinning face", from the three small holes on the coconut shell that resemble human facial features. Found across much of the tropic and subtropic area, the coconut is known for its great versatility as seen in the many domestic, commercial, and industrial uses of its different parts. Fiber Extraction

Manual - Fiber extraction process is first process to produce fiber from Coconut Husk. Many countries are not realizing the value of the Coconut Husk. The Coconut Tree is not cultivated all the countries, because of climatic conditions. When we are extracting Fiber from Coconut husk, we get 1/3 fiber and 2/3 pith. we have many ways to extract the fiber .

Mechanized - 1.Beating, 2.Combing - Most of the fiber extraction units are following only mechanized extraction method. Beating or combing methods. We are here past 42 years in coir field. So we are sharing our practical experience to develop coir fiber extraction industries.

The Coir Industry is an Agro based Rural Industry spread all over the major coconut producing states in India .Coir is a versatile natural fiber which is bio-degradable ,Hence the Coir products are Eco-friendly to nature. Owning to this, there is a large potential for expanding the export market of coir and coir Products. There is an equally big domestic market for Coir which I feel not fully taped. I told that the Industry provides means of livelihood to more than half-a-million workers predominantly women employee from the weaker sections of the society. The industry is fetching nearly Rs 700 to 1000 Crores as foreign exchange annually. The Industry is facing a lot of competitions from the Coir producing countries like Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Indonesia etc. and from other natural and synthetic products in the world market.

Yarn Conversion

Most of the yarn units are house hold units. They are facing many problem day to day activities. - Labour force and Salary level.

  • - Fiber price variations
  • - Process and Machine Choice
  • - Marketing and Paking
  • - New product development (Door mats manufacturing with cheaper price, Geo textiles, Tea bag manufacturing and Pen stand manufacturing) .
